Why I Am Glad America is a Nation of Immigrants

Have you ever wondered what life would be like if we didn’t allow immigrants to come to the U.S.? Think about it! One of America’s most famous architects, Ieoh Ming Pei was born in Canton, China in 1917 and came to the United States at the age of 18 to study architecture. He attended MIT in Boston. Look at his beautiful work and think: these fantastic, famous buildings would not exist if he hadn’t come to study here and become a citizen. Talented people like I.M Pei are just the most famous immigrants, but there are millions of not-so famous immigrants whose hard work and creative minds enrich our country enormously every day. In fact, this nation would not exist if it weren’t for immigrants. In my opinion, immigrants are essential!

Immigrants contribute so many things to our lives. They bring many different kinds of foods, such as Indian, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Thai, Ethiopian, Greek, Russian, Japanese, French and lots of others. What’s your favorite? Whatever it is, it is definitely food from immigrants, since all Americans are immigrants. Our games are also immigrant’s games: Manacle, Chinese Checkers, Kiangsi (chess), Parcheesi and more.

Now think about this: “do you have a friend or a family member who’s from another country?” I would not know my three brothers, my parents, my grandmother and my aunts, uncles, not because they are immigrants, but because I am. I was adopted with my twin sister from Vietnam.

If our country was no longer to welcome immigrants, we would lose all we would lose future gains in our culture, industry, and talent. Also I think it makes our country stronger in beliefs and values when we invite people her who are enemies of their country’s government, or who are chased out because their religion. This makes us realize how fortunate we are to live in a free country. We must stand up for freedom and justice for all; this is our responsibility as a nation of immigrants. My choise would be to open our doors to different nations world wide. Why are you glad America is a nation of immigrants?

Why I Love America

What does America mean to you? When I think of America I think of art, music, sports, religions, and foods. I also think of the wonderful people in our world that make America the greatest place to live. So, I strongly believe that America should be a nation of immigrants.

When I walk outside I see my neighbors who come from all over the world. I see Jewish and Catholic religions and others too! People brought over these religions from all over the world.

My favorite food is Thai food. If no one from Thailand was allowed to come to America we would not have it. There are many foods that come from all over the world. For example, Chinese food comes from China, Italian food comes from Italy, and other too.

Do you know who invented the cell phone? I do. Martin Cooper invented the cell phone, and tons of people in America have cell phones. However, if Martin Cooper’s parents had not immigrated from the Ukraine then we would not have had the progress in telephone technology.

So, let’s go back in history. Someone in your family was brave enough to come to America. If they had never come to America you might not be here. I know my brother and I wouldn’t. My brother and I were adopted from Guatemala when we where 2 years old. That is why I would not be here. If America had not let anyone immigrate then no one would be here. The only people that would be here are Native Americans.

Immigrants may come for a lot of reasons. Some may be war, medical problems, earthquakes, or disease. They need a place like this so that their kids can get a good education. They may have to transfer to America so that they can earn money to send it back to their friends and family or just keep it. People also have to come so that they can get the medicine they need that they can’t get in their country. America is a great country and without immigration it would not be the greatest place to live. That is why I love America.

America is a great nation because of immigrants. We are a collision of cultures, a blending of people, and a nation of independence. Our independence allows people to have freedom of speech and the right to live equally. Because of this, people from all over the world want to come to this beautiful country to live freely.

We wouldn’t know about other cultures and all the things those cultures have to offer if there wasn’t immigration. We wouldn’t be as healthy as we are today because many of the foods we depend upon to keep us healthy are grown by immigrants, or come from other countries. Immigrants from China, Japan, Mexico and all over this Earth make many of the necessities we need to survive. Think about if Levi Strauss hadn’t immigrated to the United States and invented the Levi’s brand of jeans! We might still be in uncomfortable clothes. These contributions may seem small but they add up when you put them together. Immigrants have been the foundation of our country and have helped us grow into the great country that we are today.

One thousand people die a year trying to cross the border and get a taste of our freedom. Thirty seven million people come into this country every year! If we do not allow immigrants into our country thousands of people will try to come to this beautiful country illegally not only will we have more illegal immigrants in our country, there will be more lives lost from innocent people just trying to start over.

Immigration is not only good for the U.S.A its good for any one and every one. With people being able to immigrate that makes there possibilities endless and they can bring this knowledge to other countries there are so many people that did the impossible and started a new life and a better life.

What Would We Be Without Immigrants

Hi, I am playing hockey, soccer and rugby with Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia. My name is the United States of America and these sports are being played in backyards across my country every day. Immigrants that have come to my country have taught me how to play these sports. Immigrants have brought wonderful foods, religions, and many other things. What would I be without immigrants…? Also, I was built by immigrants who came from other countries and brought their way of life.

Every year I allow 37.5 million immigrants to come to me legally from other countries and it isn’t going to stop any time soon. Because there is no way to stop immigrants, I should welcome immigrants into me and embrace all they have to offer.

When immigrants come into my country they are not coming just for freedom and money. They’re coming to start their lives. This is because I am the country of opportunity. Take this motto into consideration when you decide if you are for or against immigration.

Can an immigrant to my country become the governor of one of my states?…Well Arnold Schwarzenegger can. He started his American citizen ship with me while he was in the acting business and then went to the political life and became the governor of good old California.

Another example of an American immigrant is Wayne Gretzky. He was born in Canada. He played for the Canadian hockey team in the NHL, until they traded him to the Los Angeles Kings. When he left the Edmonton Oilers he had to move the U.S. also known as me, to become a citizen. He married his American wife whose name is Janet Jones Gretzky to start his new life here in my country.

If immigration were not allowed in my country I would be a very sad and unhappy country. If I did not allow any immigrants into my country imagine what your personal life would be like in me .Would you have as many friends and family members here as you have right now?

My country was made on immigrants and is being built by immigrants. So, why disagree with immigration in my country if your whole life is based on it.?
